The Napa Yacht Club welcomes you to the Napa Valley

Posted by admin in Meta

Napa Valley Yacht Club

The Napa Yacht Club has been the major center for Napa River recreation since 1954. The non-profit Napa Valley Yacht Club was chartered in 1987, purchased the facilities, and merged membership with the Napa Boat Club to further promote boating and water recreation on the Napa River.

Location

Conveniently located near downtown Napa, the Napa Valley Yacht Club is located about 12 miles up the Napa River from the confluences of the Carquinez Strait, San Pablo Bay and the Mare Island Straits. The trip takes about 1½ hours by boat.

NVYC is invited to a SEMINAR Wednesday, September 1st

Posted by admin in Happenings

Valley Yacht Club is invited to a SEMINAR Wednesday, September 1st at Benicia YC 7:30 pm

This will be an introduction to NCPCA (Northern California Power Cruisers Association)

Many have taken Seamanship, Piloting, Advanced Piloting and GPS courses either through US Power Squadrons or US Coast Guard Auxiliary. Now you have the opportunity to practice and challenge yourself in your boating knowledge and skills.

The group is more commonly referred to as the club that organizes the “Over The Bottom Contests” for power boaters. NCPCA invites you to participate in this seminar and in one of the last three contests being held this year: Benicia YC Sept 11th San Leandro YC Sept. 18th San Rafael YC Sept 25th

You are given a NOAA chart for each contest with the course already laid out with predetermined waypoints. Additionally, an information sheet is given out with the course heading, distance in yards, and accumulated time from waypoint to waypoint. After you review your information sheet, you will inform the contest manager at what speed you wish to enter the contest and operate your boat. Your choices are from 5 to 8 knots and 10 knots. To help you along the way, you calculate additional reference points to enable you to maintain your speed between waypoints while being challenged by wind and currents.

This type of contest gives you the opportunity to refine your boat handling and charting skills as you maintain a selected speed over the bottom.

This seminar is your chance to get all your questions answered about “Over The Bottom Contests.” We look forward to meeting you and adding to your boating skills and FUN.

Interested? Contact Rick Mares Asst Contest Mgr @ 415-385-8737 or Jack Praytor Contest Mgr @ 209-526-5481or Diane Lasher Vice Commodore

A note to our friends from the webmaster

It has just come to my attention that the “Contact Us” section has had some errors. The email address that messages were being sent to was malformed, so the messages have been going to the wrong inbox. This was a minor mistake that may have had some major implications. I sincerely apologize if your message went unanswered.

I’ve done a couple of things to make this better.

First, I created a Google Voice account which will allow you to dial the Port Captain directly. This will make life a lot easier for folks who have a quick question. The number is (707) 812-1377. Add it to your address book!

Second, I have fixed the email issue so that all messages are forwarded to the appropriate contact at the club. I’ve also forwarded all of the missed emails to the Port Captain.

Once again, apologies if your message was never responded to.

Ooops.
